CORDEAUX
The CORDEAUX family appear when Charlotte CORDEAX became the second wife of Herbert KYNASTON. Herbert had lost his wife Mary Louisa Ann BROS [Mary] after less than 4 years of marriage, and in his book “55 Years of my Life” he makes it obvious that he was sorrowful and lonely and in need of a good mother for his three children. Herbert and Mary had married 8 Aug 1860, had William Herbert in 1861, Robert Kynaston in 1863 and Mary born 6 April 1864. Sadly, Mary died only 19 days later on 25th April 1864, so Herbert was left with two boys aged 3, 1 and a babe in arms. On 25th April 1865 friends prevailed on him to go to a garden party at Wentworth and he met Charlotte, daughter of the Rev John Cordeaux, Rector of Hoyland. Herbert went on to preach in the church at Hoyland, and met all the family, and “the impression became strongly fixed in my mind that in her I should find a recovery of my happiness and a loving mother to my children” . At the end of May, after much thought, Herbert wrote to Charlotte asking her to be his wife and they were married at Hoyland on 8th August.
It is not easy sorting out Cordeaux ancestors, as the name is subject to many different spellings- for example Richard Cordukes is one, even though he signs his name as ‘Cordeux’.
Below is a short tree centered on Hebert and Charlotte, and as it is centered on them, the first three of Herberts children dont appear. Thus there is a second tree centered on Herbert and Mary to show different lines of ascent and decent.
