FLEMING
The FLEMING family are interesting, but are intermarried with HARVEY at two points, although at the moment they are not in direct line as ascent for our particular HARVEY branch. They seem to be merchants of various sorts in and around Glasgow, probably starting as farmers in the 1700s. All the ones we have descend from John FLEMING [1744-1795] and Margaret ROSS [1748- ca 1808] and their ten children, as shown in the first tree below. Note that the numbering system up to 13 children for James FLEMING and Lillian/Leslie ALEXANDER are because from the fourth upwards this is noted with the baptism in the documents on Scottish People, which helped a lot in sorting them out.
The second tree is that starting with James FLEMING and Lillias ALEXANDER and in it you can see that Gavin Walker FLEMING married Jane HARVEY whilst his sister Margaret FLEMING married Robert HARVEY. Gavin Walker FLEMING died young and his widow Jane remarried to Anthony HANNAY and her death is recorded as such. Robert HARVEY was a son of John HARVEY and Marion MORRISON, so a brother to our William 1; Robert was married first to Sarah BARNETT- Jane is one of his daughters by that marriage. After Sarah BARNETT died, Robert married again to Margaret FLEMING by whom he had one daughter, Lillias, who would therefore be a half sister to Jane. WIlliam 1 married Sarah’s sister, Rebecca BARNETT.
I am still tracing families downwards so this is still a work in progress. Its going to be difficult to get back though on John FLEMING and Margaret ROSS. Watch this space!
