PERROT

Sir John PERROT was an interesting character, and is yet another “gateway” person in this tree. He died in the Tower of London, but was 64, so whether or not he died of natural causes or was poisoned is open to discussion. The reason he ended up there was because allegations were made against him from his period in Ireland relatinmg to making treasonable promises, and also his using violent language against the Queen. It was a mess and he was found guilty, put into the Tower, and his sentence was put off for some months in the hope of a royal pardon- but whether Queen Elizabeth actually intended to pardon him is uncertain.

John married firstly Anne CHEYNE who died in 1553; she was the daughter of Sir Thomas CHEYNE by his first wife Frideswide FROWYK daughter of Sir Thomas FROWYK and by this marriage he had a son and heir, Sir Thomas PERROT [d1594]. A decade after Anne’s death, John married Jane PRUST daughter of Hugh PRUST and widow of Lewis POLLARD. They had three children: William who died unmarried, Anne who married Sir John PHILIPPS 1st Baronet of Picton Castle who is our ancestor in this family; thirdly a daughter Lettice who married three times to Walter VAUGHAN, John LANGHORNE and Arthur CHICHESTER.

Sir John fathered a number of illegitimate children including Sir James, John, Elizabeth and another daughter whose name we dont know.
